When we attach a USB cable to an HP envy printer, the computer will try to recognize it and if it has a suitable driver, it can do an automatic installation and print. Sometimes the resident module(s) (a program that runs all the time in the background looking for suspicious activity) of anti-malware software or third party software firewalls interferes with a software installation from installing properly, and usually there is no indication that's what happened, other than the software didn't install all the way or it installed but doesn't work properly.
. If you DISABLE that (those) from running BEFORE you install the software, you're a lot less likely to have problems

E.g. AVG 2011 (Resident Shield) , Microsoft Security Essentials, Spybot, AdAware all have a resident module. The free version of Malwarebytes does not; the paid or trial version does.
The paid version of AVG 2011 also has a third party firewall.

If you don't know how to do that, tell us which anti-malware or third party software firewall program you have installed.

Un-install any failed software installation, disable the resident module(s), BEFORE you try installing the software again.

After you're sure the software has installed properly, enable the resident module(s) again.
